Telangana's COVID recovery rate crosses 86 per cent

The COVID-19 recovery rate in Telangana crossed 86 per cent as the state continued to report more recoveries than the daily count of positive cases. The state on Tuesday reported 2,381 new recoveries, pushing the total number of people recovered to 1,74,769.

India records 72,049 new COVID-19 cases, 986 deaths in a day; tally crosses 67-lakh mark

India on Wednesday recorded as many as 72,049 new coronavirus cases and 986 deaths in the last 24 hours, the lowest in months, according to Union health ministry data. India's COVID-19 tally crossed 67 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 67,57,132 while the death toll climbed to 1,04,555 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 9,07,883 are active cases, 57,44,694 recovered, according to the health ministry.

UP power employees call off stir against privatisation of Poorvanchal Distribution Company

Uttar Pradesh power employees on Tuesday called off their indefinite strike against the proposed privatisation of Poorvanchal Distribution Company after the state government assured them that it would not go ahead with the move if the situation of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) improves. In a written agreement between the power employees and a cabinet sub-committee comprising finance minister Suresh Khanna, energy minister Shrikant Sharma, chief secretary RK Tewari and additional chief secretary, energy, Arvind Kumar, the government said it would assess the position of UPPCL till January 15.
