Milestone: Modi enters 20th year in public office without a break

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entered his 20th year in a public office today without a break, setting a "milestone" in the Indian political history. It was on October 7 in the year 2001 when Modi was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time. Later, he took on a national role as Prime Minister. Modi stood out among his peers right from his day as Chief Minister of Gujarat, BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda wrote in the Indian Express. Nadda said Modi entering his 20th year as the head of a government speaks volumes about his ability to win the people's confidence over and over again, in greater magnitude every time.

UP power employees call off stir against privatisation of Poorvanchal Distribution Company

Uttar Pradesh power employees on Tuesday called off their indefinite strike against the proposed privatisation of Poorvanchal Distribution Company after the state government assured them that it would not go ahead with the move if the situation of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) improves. In a written agreement between the power employees and a cabinet sub-committee comprising finance minister Suresh Khanna, energy minister Shrikant Sharma, chief secretary RK Tewari and additional chief secretary, energy, Arvind Kumar, the government said it would assess the position of UPPCL till January 15.

FIR registered against Kamal Nath, 8 others for violation of COVID-19 norms

An FIR has been registered against Madhya Pradesh's former Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath and eight others, under multiple sections of the IPC and Disaster Management Act, for violation of COVID-19 norms during a public meeting in the state. The FIR was registered on Tuesday at Bhander police station in Datia district against Nath and eight others on the basis of a written complaint by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Arvind Mahor on Monday.

Noida: Mother, baby die during quack-assisted delivery, bodies dumped outside clinic

A 27-year-old woman and her baby both died during the delivery in a quack’s clinic in Mamura area of Noida, prompting the clinic owner to dump the two bodies outside her facility and run away, police said on Tuesday. The police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the absconding woman quack and launched a manhunt to nab her, said Central Noida’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankur Aggarwal.

Karnataka issues guidelines as state braces for festive season. Check details

Ahead of the festive season, the Karnataka government on Tuesday issued guidelines in the form of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to contain the coronavirus spread.
