Journalist, 3 others allegedly linked to PFI arrested by UP police on way to Hathras

Uttar Pradesh police said they have arrested four people suspected to have links with the Popular Front of India, an alleged radical group, and its affiliate in Mathura when they were on their way to Hathras district.

Mumbai market fire yet to be doused even after 40 hours

Over 40 hours after a fire broke out at a commercial building in a cutlery market in south Mumbai, efforts were still on to douse the flames, officials said on Tuesday. Two fire brigade personnel were injured on Monday during the operation. They were rushed to the hospital and later discharged after treatment. The fire broke out around 4.30 pm on Sunday in the ground-plus-three-storey structure, located near Juma mosque in Masjid Bunder area, the officials said.

Dr Reddy's asked to reapply for phase 2, 3 clinical trials of Russian COVID-19 vaccine

An expert panel at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has asked Dr Reddy's Laboratories to submit a revised protocol for conducting both phase-2 and 3 human clinical trials in India for the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, against COVID-19, sources said.

J&K LG directs immediate installation of mobile towers near LoC

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed immediate installation of mobile towers in the frontier Machil in Kupwara district to provide mobile telephony connectivity to the remote area. Sinha made the announcement during his visit to Machil in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on the fourth day of the 'Back to Village' programme which aims to take governance to the doorsteps of the people in the union territory.

Hathras case: CJI bench to hear PIL seeking CBI, SIT probe today

The Supreme Court will hear today a PIL seeking a CBI probe or a SIT investigation under a sitting or former Supreme Court or a High Court judge into the brutal gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district. The PIL will be taken up by a bench, headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprising Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian.

India records 61,266 new COVID-19 cases, 884 deaths in a day; tally crosses 66-lakh mark

India on Tuesday recorded as many as 61,266 new coronavirus cases and 884 deaths in the last 24 hours, the lowest in months, according to Union health ministry data. India's COVID-19 tally crossed 66 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 6,685,082 while the death toll climbed to 1,03,569 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 9,19,023 are active cases, 56,62,490 recovered, according to the health ministry.
