Political slugfest over Hathras case continues: Rahul to make a second attempt to reach victim's village today

The gangrape, murder and hurried cremation of a 19-year-old Dalit girl has sparked a political slugfest in India, with many political leaders making a beeline to the victim's village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras but to no avail. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was stopped by the police at Yamuna expressway while he was enroute to Hathras on Thursday, will yet again make an attempt today. Meanwhile, local authorities are rigid on their stand that the Dalit victim’s village was off-limits for the media.

Delhi air quality 'poor'; may pose breathing difficulties to most people

Hathras-type incidents happening everyday in Maharashtra: BJP leader stirs controversy

Maharashtra BJP leader Pravin Darekar on Friday hit out at those demanding the resignation of his party's government in Uttar Pradesh over the Hathras crime by claiming "such incidents are happening in Maharashtra everyday". A Dalit teen was allegedly sexually attacked by four men on September 14 in Hathras in UP and referred on Monday to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with spinal injuries, paralysis and cuts in her tongue.  She died around 3 am on Tuesday.

PM Modi to inaugurate Atal Tunnel in Rohtang today: What you should know

The strategically important all-weather Atal Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in the world, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The 9.02 km-long tunnel connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley throughout the year. The inauguration will take place at 10 am today. It reduces the road distance by 46 kilometers between Manali and Leh and the time by about 4-5 hours. The Tunnel is built with ultra-modern specifications in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas at an altitude of 3000 meters (10,000 Feet) from the Mean Sea Level (MSL).

After the Hathras SP and four other policemen were suspended over the gangrape-murder case of a Dalit woman, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday asked what difference suspending "some pawns" would make and demanded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's resignation. The Uttar Pradesh government suspended Hathras SP Vikrant Vir and four other policemen on Friday over their handling of the gangrape-murder case. Tagging Adityanath, Priyanka Gandhi asked what difference suspending "some pawns" would make.

Congress leaders detained following midnight protest at Goa hotel to meet Javadekar

Several Goa Congress leaders, including the pradesh committee vice president, were detained Friday night after they protested in the lobby of a hotel demanding they be allowed to meet Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar. Javadekar is in Goa to attend a series of meetings on the new farm bills Saturday. The Congress leaders reached the hotel around midnight and demanded to meet the Union minister over the Mahadayi river water dispute with Karnataka.
