India records single-day spike of 81,484 COVID-19 cases, 1,095 deaths; tally crosses 63-lakh mark

India on Friday recorded as many as 86,820 new coronavirus cases and 1,181 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Union health ministry data. India's Covid-19 tally crossed 63 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 63,12,584 while the death toll climbed to 98,678 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 9,40,705 are active cases, 52,73,201 recovered, according to the health ministry.

NASA's launch of Cygnus spacecraft, named after Kalpana Chawla, scrubbed just 2 minutes before liftoff

The launch attempt of NASA commercial cargo provider Northrop Grumman's 14th resupply mission to the International Space Station has been scrubbed. The Cygnus spacecraft, named after Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla, scheduled to be launched from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility, was scrubbed about 2 minutes and 40 seconds before liftoff due to an unknown problem with a component of ground support equipment.

Junior doctor at govt hospital hangs himself in Madhya Pradesh

A junior doctor attached to the state-run Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital here allegedly committed suicide on Thursday evening, the police said. Bhagwat Devangan (29) was pursuing a postgraduate course in orthopedics, said Garha police station's inspector Rakesh Tiwari.

Railways to introduce 200 special trains between Oct 15 to Nov 30 during festive season

The Indian Railways is planning to introduce 200 special trains between October 15 and November 30 to cater to passengers travelling during the festive season. “We have conducted meetings with the general managers of zones and instructed them to speak with local administration and review the status of coronavirus.They have been asked to give us a report after which we will decide how many trains can be introduced during the holiday season. Our estimate as of now is that we will run around 200 trains, but it is an estimate, the number could be more,” news agency PTI quoted Railway Board Chairman and CEO V K Yadav as saying on Thursday.

Delhi records 3,037 coronavirus cases; death toll reaches 5,401

Delhi recorded as many as 3,037 fresh coronavirus cases. With this, the tally of coronavirus cases in the state has mounted to over 2.82 lakh on Thursday, while the death toll mounted to 5,401. Forty fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.
