Delhi set to witness a virtual Durga Puja this year

One of the most popular festivals in the national capital -- Durga Puja -- in all likelihood is going to be celebrated 'virtually' this year amid the 'new normal' scheme of things taking over due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent restrictions, including social distancing. Delhi witnesses the grand celebration of Durga Puja every year but this time, the festival is all set to lose its glitz and shine. Preparations in many places in the national capital are underway to celebrate the Puja 'virtually'.

MLA hostel in Mumbai evacuated after bomb scare

An MLA hostel in south Mumbai was evacuated after the city police received a phone call about a bomb being placed in the building, an official said on Tuesday. However, no bomb was found after a search in the premises and the phone call turned out to be a hoax, he said. The incident took place on Monday night when an unidentified person called the police, saying a bomb was placed inside the Akashvani MLA hostel, located near the state secretariat, the official said.

India records single-day spike of 70,589 COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 61-lakh mark

India on Tuesday recorded as many as 70,589 new coronavirus cases and 776 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Union health ministry data. India's Covid-19 tally crossed 61 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 61,45,292 while the death toll climbed to 96,318 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 51,01,398 cured/discharged/migrated, according to the health ministry.

'Rail Roko' agitation enters 6th day; farmers to now announce mass agitation across nation

The 'rail roko' agitation by farmers in Punjab has entered the sixth day today (Tuesday). J&K: Pakistan violates ceasefire on LoC; targets Indian positions in Poonch

Pakistan resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on the line of control (LoC) on Tuesday targeting Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. Col. Devender Anand, spokesman of Defence Ministry said that at 4.30 a.m., Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Mankote sector of Poonch district.
