A fire broke out at a building in Mumbai on Monday. The incident was reported from Andheri area of the city. Fire tenders have reached the spot and undertaking operations to douse the fire.

SC adjourns to Oct 5 hearing on pleas seeking extension of moratorium period, waiver of interest

The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned to October 5 hearing on two public interest litigations (PILs) seeking an extension of the moratorium period and waive off interest on the repayment of the loan amount in view the COVID-19 pandemic. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, deferred the matter for October 5, after Solicitor General Tushar sought more time to place some relevant documents before it, as asked by the apex court earlier.

Fire erupts at ICU of govt hospital in Maharashtra's Kolhapur

A fire broke out in an ICU section of a government hospital in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district early Monday morning, an official said. All 15 patients who were in the ICU section were immediately shifted out and the blaze has been extinguished, he said. The fire broke out in the trauma ICU section of Kolhapur's Chhatrapati Pramila Raje General Hospital, located around 230 km from here, early in the morning due to short-circuit, the hospital's Dean Dr Chandrakant Mhase said.

1,200 inmates across UP jails test COVID-19 positive

In the 71 jails across Uttar Pradesh, there are 1,200 inmates who have been infected with Covid-19. According to Anand Kumar, Director General, Prison Administration and Reform Services, till date about 1,40,000 tests, including (those on) 5,000 staff members, have been conducted in the state's temporary and permanent jails, and over 7,000 had tested positive so far. Two inmates have died of the virus.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 60-lakh mark; 82,170 new cases, 1,039 deaths in a day

With 82,170 new positive cases of coronavirus infection and 1,039 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country has breached 60 lakh mark on Monday, as per the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 60,74,702 while the death toll climbed to 95,542 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 50,16,520 cured/discharged/migrated, and 9,62,640 active COVID-19 cases, according to the health ministry.
