Major fire in Narela shoe factory, no casualty

A major fire was reported from a shoe factory in Narela industrial area on Friday night. At least 26 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the inferno. "We received a call at around 10:45 p.m. from the factory about the fire in basement and other floors. Total 26 fire tenders rushed to the site," said Atul Garg, Director Delhi Fire Service.

Delhi records 'moderate' air quality, may turn 'poor' by Monday

The national capital recorded its air quality in the "moderate" category on Saturday morning, while a government forecasting agency predicted that it will turn "poor" by Monday. At 9.30 am, Delhi''s air quality index (AQI) was 168, which falls in the "moderate" category. On Friday, it recorded a 24-hour average AQI of 134.

PM Modi greets Manmohan Singh on his birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted his predecessor Manmohan Singh on his birthday on Saturday, wishing him a long and healthy life. Singh, who headed the UPA coalition government between 2004 and 2014, turned 88 on Saturday. He is credited with playing a key role in ushering in economic reforms as the finance minister in the P V Narasimha Rao government during 1991-96.

India records single-day spike of 85,362 COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 59-lakh mark

India on Saturday recorded as many as 85,362 new coronavirus cases and 1,089 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Union health ministry data. India's Covid-19 tally crossed 59 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 59,03,933 while the death toll climbed to 93,379 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 48,49,585 cured/discharged/migrated, according to the health ministry.
