Kerala wins UN award on prevention, control of non-communicable diseases

Kerala bagged a United Nations award on Thursday for its "outstanding contribution" towards the non-communicable diseases-related sustainable development goals. The UN Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) award this year on prevention and control of non-communicable diseases was announced by World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The award recognises achievements during 2019 on the multisectoral action in the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health and the wider NCD-related sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Delhi: Speeding cluster bus mows down 3 in Nand Nagri area

Three persons, including a minor boy, were mowed down allegedly by a speeding cluster bus on Thursday night in northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri area, police said. Police received a call around 9.30 pm regarding the incident and rushed to the area opposite Nand Nagri Bus Depot on the road leading towards Bhaupura Border. According to police, the bus, which has been seized, was coming towards the flyover near ITI, Nand Nagri.

Govt allows airlines to decide baggage limitations for domestic flights

The Civil Aviation Ministry has permitted airlines to decide baggage limitations for domestic passenger flights, stated an official order. When the domestic passenger flights resumed on May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ministry had stated that only one check-in baggage and one hand baggage per passenger must be allowed.

HC seeks CBI reply on life convict’s appeal in Muzaffarpur shelter home case

The Delhi High Court Thursday sought CBI's reply on a plea by a convict, a member of Child Welfare Committee, challenging his life imprisonment in the sexual assault case of several girls in a shelter home in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notice to the CBI on the appeal filed by Vikas Kumar.

Farm Bills row: Several trains suspended as Punjab farmers begin 'rail roko' campaign

Several trains were suspended on Thursday as farmers began a three-day 'rail roko' campaign against the Farm Bills passed by both Houses of Parliament. The Ferozepur Railway division decided to suspend the operation of special trains till September 26 in view of the safety of passengers, a rail official said.

In my show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on Wednesday night, for the first time, I showed ground visuals of our troops deployed near the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh. Out of 3,488 kilometre long LAC between India and China, Arunachal Pradesh alone accounts for 1,080 kilometres. Most of the Tibetan plateau can be seen from LAC in Arunachal Pradesh. At some points, Indian jawans and Chinese soldiers have even close eyeball contact and can speak to each other.

SC terms 'frivolous' PIL on rising suicides in IITs, imposes Rs 10K fine on lawyer

The Supreme Court on Thursday termed as "frivolous" a PIL seeking a direction to the Centre and IITs to formulate and implement a student wellness program to curb rising number of suicides in campuses and imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on the lawyer for filing it. The top court said the government was alive to the situation and dismissed the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Gaurav Bansal on the issue of suicides in IITs across the country.
