Farm Bills: Rajya Sabha Chairman likely to take action against MPs who created ruckus, tore papers

Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu is likely to take action against those Members of Parliament who created ruckus in the Upper House over agriculture bills, news agency ANI reported.  Amid protest from Opposition parties, The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill passed by Rajya Sabha.

'Watershed moment': PM Modi hails passage of Farm Bills, assures MSPs would continue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated all the farmers on the passage of farm bills in the Parliament today. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi called it a "watershed moment in the history of Indian agriculture" and assured protesting farmers that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system won’t be touched and government purchase of their produce would continue.

Mosque in Ayodhya may not have 'traditional shape': Trust official

The mosque to come up in Ayodhya pursuant to the Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi case may have a shape that is different from the traditional shape of mosques and will not be named after any emperor or king. Secretary and spokesperson of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) Athar Hussain told PTI on Sunday, "A mosque measuring 15,000 square feet will be built in Dhannipur village. It will be of the same size as that of the Babri mosque. The shape of the mosque may be completely different from that of other mosques. It may be square-shaped like the Kaaba Sharif in Mecca, as hinted by architect SM Akhtar."

Police use water canon to disperse protesting Youth Congress workers over Farm Bills in Ambala

Rajya Sabha today passed two contentious farm bills, Farmer's Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, which have triggered protests by farmers at several places, amid uproar by opposition members. Uproarious scenes were also witnessed in the Upper House when some opposition members led by the TMC climbed on to the chairman's podium as the government pushed for the passage of two contentious farm bills.
