Farm bills tabled in Rajya Sabha amid protests; attack on souls of farmers, says Congress

The Rajya Sabha began with a political slugfest today as the Congress-led Opposition tried to corner the Centre over the farm bills to oppose these proposed legislations terming them as anti-farmer and pro-corporate. The ruling BJP, with support from its NDA allies and a few "friendly" parties, is expected to have the advantage if the bills are put to vote.

Rajasthan imposes Section 144 of CrPC in 11 districts amid rising COVID-19 cases

The Rajasthan government on Saturday decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in 11 districts of the state due to rising number of coronavirus cases. The state has 33 districts and the provision prohibits an assembly of more than five persons at a place. According to a release, the government also decided to continue the ban on social or religious functions till October 31.

India records single-day spike of 92,605 COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 54-lakh mark

India on Sunday recorded as many as 92,605 new coronavirus cases and 1,133 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Union health ministry data. India's Covid-19 tally crossed 54 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 54,00,620 while the death toll climbed to 86,752 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 43,03,044 cured/discharged/migrated, according to the health ministry. As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 30,674,077 and the fatalities rose to 955,440, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

Delhi records over 4,000 COVID-19 cases, 38 deaths in 24 hours; tally reaches 2.42 lakh

Another 38 people have succumbed to the dreaded novel coronavirus here, taking the death toll due to Covid-19 in the national capital to 4,945. Also, 4,071 fresh infections have been reported, taking the total number of cases beyond 2.42 lakh, officials said.

West Bengal Governor targets police over NIA arrests, calls approach to law and order ‘ostrich stance’

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday said that the state has become "home to illegal bomb-making" and the administration cannot escape its accountability for the "alarming decline" in law and order. His comments came after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested nine terrorists associated with a Pakistan-sponsored module of the al-Qaeda from several locations in West Bengal's Murshidabad and Kerala's Ernakulam early on Saturday.
