Manmohan, Chidambaram to skip Parliament proceedings on health grounds

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram have sought leave for remaining absent for the session on health grounds. Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkiah Naidu, sought the nod of the House to grant leaves.

Delhi: Doctors saves life of man with 15% active heart

Timely and prompt treatment by a multidisciplinary team of doctors at Max Hospital, Saket, provided a new lease of life to a man whose heart functioned merely at 15 per cent of its capacity. In addition to his complications, he had also developed acute renal failure post his heart operation. However, his life was saved after a set of complex surgeries.

India coronavirus cases tally crosses 50-lakh mark; 1,290 deaths in 24 hours

India on Wednesday registered a record of 90,123 coronavirus cases in 24 hours taking the total number of infections to over 50 lakh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The country also recorded 1,056 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 82,066. The total case tally stands at 50,20,360 including 9,95,933 active cases while total recoveries stand at 39,42,361.

Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case: HC adjourns Brajesh Thakur's appeal for October 1

Delhi High Court's division bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar adjourned the hearing on the appeal filed by Brajesh Thakur, who was senteced to life term by a trial court in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, till October 1.

No e-registration needed to enter Himachal now; interstate buses remain suspended

People entering Himachal Pradesh will no longer require an online registration, the state government decided on Tuesday. However, the movement of interstate buses will remain suspended till further orders, a state minister said. The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

Serum Institute of India gets DCGI nod to resume Oxford COVID vaccine's clinical trial

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) Dr VG Somani on Tuesday gave permission to Serum Institute of India to resume the clinical trial of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate in the country while revoking its earlier order of suspending any new recruitment for phase two and three trial. The DCGI, however, put certain conditions like taking extra care during screening, providing additional information in informed consent and close monitoring for adverse events during follow-up of the study which has to be "scrupulously" followed by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

India slams Pakistan for persecuting Hindus, Sikhs, other minorities

India on Tuesday described Pakistan as an “epicenter of terrorism” and said no one deserves unsolicited lecture on human rights from Islamabad that has consistently persecuted its ethnic and religious minorities including Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. Exercising the Right of Reply to the statements made by Pakistan at the 45th session of Human Rights Council (HRC), the Indian representative said that it has become habitual for Pakistan to malign India with false and fabricated narratives for its self-serving malicious purposes.
