2 die in lightning strikes in Malda, heavy rain forecast for Bengal

Two persons, including a woman, died in lightning strikes in West Bengal's Malda district on Friday, officials said. Bijoli Mondal (40) was cutting grass for cattle near her home at Pirganj village in the morning when lightning struck her, they said. Montu Karmakar (60), a carpenter, was struck by lightning when he was working in front of his house under a polythene shed during a thunderstorm, they added. The dead bodies of both the persons were sent to Malda Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem, officials said.

With reopening of Airport Express Line, Delhi Metro becomes fully operational from today

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) resumed its services on the Airport Express line on Saturday after a halt of more 170 days due to the coronavirus pandemic. From Saturday, September 12, all trains on all lines of Delhi Metro will resume the pre-COVID timing of the operation from 6 am to 11 pm.

On Kangana Ranaut flight chaos, DGCA seeks report from Indigo on 'safety violation' by mediapersons

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday sought a report from IndiGo airlines on the alleged violation of safety and social distancing protocols by mediapersons in its Chandigarh-Mumbai flight that had actor Kangana Ranaut as a passenger. The DGCA has sought a report from the airline on "violation of safety and social distancing protocol by media personnel on flight 6E-264.

Kolkata Police woman commanding officer Debashree Chatterjee, 2 others killed in road accident in Hooghly

A senior officer of West Bengal Police and two others were killed when their car hit a stranded truck in Hooghly district on Friday. Police said Commanding Officer of 12th Battalion of State Armed Police, Debasree Chatterjee died after her vehicle hit a stranded truck from behind at Dadpur in the early hours of Friday.

State govt had no role in it: Sharad Pawar on demolition of Kangana's Mumbai office

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said the decision to demolish actor Kangana Ranaut's office in Mumbai was taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Speaking on the matter further, Pawar said the state government had no role to play in the process and that the BMC demolished Kangana's Mumbai office in accordance with all rules and regulations. Kangana's office in Mumbai was partially pulled down by the BMC, while she was not in the city. Using a bulldozer and excavators, a BMC team had demolished the alterations allegedly made without the civic body's approval at Ranaut's bungalow at Pali Hill on Wednesday morning.

Opinion | Sushant death case: Rhea’s bail plea rejected again

The NDPS special court in Mumbai on Friday rejected all the six bail petitions filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, their associates Dipesh Sawant, Samuel Miranda, suspected peddlers Abdul Basit and Zaid Vilatra. Judge GB Gurao said that the videos and pictures of Bollywood parties in the tablet seized from Rhea’s residence are yet to be forensically examined and hence judicial custody was necessary. Rhea will now have to spend more time in Byculla jail, till her bail petition is heard in Bombay High Court.
