India may see 7 million COVID-19 cases by October, says study by BITS Pilani

India may witness over seven million COVID-19 cases by the first week of October, surpassing the US and emerging as the country with the highest number of infections, a team of researchers from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad said on Friday.

India to China: Massive PLA deployment along LAC 'flash points'

India has told China that it failed to provide a credible explanation for the deployment of massive troops of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. Sources told IANS that there was a two and a half hours parley on Thursday between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi in Moscow on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. India underlined its strong concern at the amassing of Chinese troops with arms and equipment along the LAC.

Earthquake hits India-Pakistan border region; epicentre in J&K

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir with its epicentre at the India-Pakistan border region, the Met said. The tremors were felt at 1.53 a.m. at 33.03 degrees north and 73.63 degrees east at a depth of 10 km inside the earth.

India had estimated 6.4 million COVID-19 infections by early May: National serosurvey

The much-awaited findings of the first national serosurvey conducted by the ICMR, published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, indicate that 0.73 per cent adults in India were exposed to SARS-CoV-2 amounting to a total of 6.4 million infections by early May. The survey was conducted from May 11 to June 4 and covered 28,000 individuals whose blood samples were tested for IgG antibodies using COVID Kavach ELISA kit. Also, seropositivity was the highest in the age group of 18-45 years (43.3 per cent), followed by those between 46-60 years (39.5 per cent) and it was the lowest among those aged above 60 (17.2 per cent).

India records biggest one-day spike of 96,550 COVID-19 cases, 1,209 deaths; tally crosses 45 lakh-mark

India on Friday registered a record 96,550 coronavirus cases in 24 hours taking the total number of infections to over 45.65 lakh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The country also recorded the highest deaths in a day with 1,209 in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 76,271. The total case tally stands at 4,562,414 including 9,43,480 active cases. Total recoveries stand at 35,42,663.
