Two low-intensity earthquakes were experienced in Palghar district of Maharashtra, an official said on Saturday. The tremors were recorded late on Friday night within a gap of nearly half an hour, he said.

Half burnt body of man found in UP's Amethi district
The half-burnt body of a Dalit man was found at a village under Gauriganj police station, police said Saturday. Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram Saroj said the body of Ram Prasad was recovered and sent it for autopsy after some family members alleged that it was a case of murder.

Happy Teachers' Day 2020: Full List of teachers to be awarded today
The country is observing Teachers' Day today to mark the birthday of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on this day in 1888. Teachers' Day is celebrated as a symbol of tribute and honor to the contribution made by teachers to the society. At least 47 teachers have been selected by the government for 'National Awards to Teachers 2020'. They will be awarded virtually today on the occasion of Teachers' Day. The Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy, constituted an Independent Jury at National Level to select the award recipients for the year 2020. The Independent Jury at National Level reviewed the list of 153 teachers as shortlisted by all the 36 State & UT Selection Committees and 7 Organisation Selection Committees.

With single-day spike of 86,432 cases, India's COVID tally crosses 40 lakh-mark
With 86,432 people testing positive for coronavirus infection on Wednesday, India's COVID-19 tally mounted to 40,23,179 including 8,46,395 active cases while recoveries surged to 31,07,223, according to Union Health Ministry data. The death toll, meanwhile, climbed to 69,561 with 1,089 new fatalities being reported in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.
