India thwarts provocative movements by China in Eastern Ladakh

People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops late on Sunday violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements, following a standoff in Eastern Ladakh. According to Army's PRO Col Aman Anand, the PLA troops carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo. Commenting further, Anand said Indian troops pre-empted this PLA activity on the Southern Bank of Pangong Tso Lake.

Preparations on for second phase of human clinical trial of Covaxin

Preparations are underway at a hospital in Bhubaneswar for the commencement of the second phase of human clinical trial of 'Covaxin', India's indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, officials said. "The Phase I of the trial is still continuing as we are planning for the start of the Phase II trial shortly," Dr E Venkata Rao, Principal Investigator of the trial at Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, faculty of medical sciences, said.

Pranab Mukherjee's health declines, in 'septic shock' due to lung infection: Hospital

The medical condition of former President Pranab Mukherjee has worsened, a statement by Army Hospital (R&R) in Delhi Cantt said on Monday. According to the hospital statement, Pranab Mukherjee in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by a team of specialists. The former president continues to be in deep coma and on ventilator support, the statement read.

Surge not so worrying if serious cases, deaths are low: Experts

The rise in the number of COVID-19 cases should not be a cause of concern as long as the number of serious patients and deaths due to the disease remain low, say public health experts in Gujarat. They are also of the view that the new cases being reported daily should be categorised as mild, moderate or severe to better understand the pandemic. "We are finding new cases everyday, but the first thing we need to know is how many of them are serious," said Dileep Mavalankar, Director of the Gandhinagar-based Indian Institute of Public Health.

India records over 78,000 COVID-19 cases, 971 deaths in a day; tally crosses 36-lakh mark

India on Monday recorded as many as 78,512 new coronavirus cases and 971 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Union health ministry data. India's Covid-19 tally crossed 36 lakh-mark with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The total cases of coronavirus infections stand at 36,21,246 while the death toll climbed to 64,469 the data updated at 8 am showed. Out of these 27,74,802 cured/discharged/migrated, according to the health ministry.
