India to procure more Phalcon airborne warning and control systems from Israel

The government is in the final stage of approving the acquisition of two Phalcon airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) for the Indian Air Force from Israel at a cost of around USD 1 billion, official sources said on Thursday. The fresh negotiations with Israeli authorities concerned for procurement of the two Phalcon AWACS come in the midst of India's bitter border row with China in high-altitude eastern Ladakh.

Uttar Pradesh bans public, religious and social events till September 30 amid pandemic

Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary Avnish Awasthi on Thursday announced that no public, religious and social events will be held in the state till September 30, in view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases. He further added that till September 30, permissions for the same will not be allowed.

Tahir Hussain, accused in Delhi riots, no longer a Municipal Councillor

Months after the Delhi Police named suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain as one of the main conspirators in the Delhi riots, the East MCD on Thursday sacked him from the post of Councillor. The proposal to sack Hussain was brought to the House as a monthly agenda and was passed unanimously. His membership was scrapped under section 33(2) of the Delhi Municipal Act.

Five benches in Delhi HC to hold physical courts on rotation from September 1

The Delhi High Court Thursday said five of its benches will start holding physical courts on a rotation basis from September 1, and issued standard operating procedure (SOP) for it. The high court, which has been conducting hearings through video conferencing since March 24 to contain the spread of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, said the remaining benches shall continue taking up matters through the virtual mode.
