2 more IIT Kharagpur students, a hostel staff test positive for COVID-19

Two more IIT Kharagpur students and a hostel staff have tested positive for COVID-19, a top institute official said on Tuesday. While one student had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 19 and was sent to Kolkata, the swab samples of two of his hostel mates and the mess staff were also sent for test by the authorities, IIT Kharagpur Registrar B N Singh told PTI.

Telangana logs highest one-day jump of 2,579 Covid cases, tally at 1,08,670

Telangana has reported 2,579 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, health officials said on Tuesday. With this the state's tally mounted to 1,08,670, while nine deaths pushed the overall toll to 770. The state also set the record by conducting 52,933 tests. This is the highest number of tests to be conducted in a 24-hour period. The total number of tests done so far is over 10 lakh.

Coronavirus most prevalent among those in 5-17 age bracket: Delhi Sero survey

Minors aged between 5 and 17 are most exposed to the novel coronavirus in Delhi, according to a serological survey conducted in the city this month. Conducted between August 1 and August 7, the survey, second in the city, showed that 29.1 percent of the population in the national capital has now developed antibodies against SARS CoV-2.

Mental health issues on rise amid pandemic, over 1,300 seek Maharashtra govt's help

Amid the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, more than 1,300 people battling mental stress and depression have approached the Maharashtra government with requests for medical help, a state health official said. Private doctors also claimed that the number of people suffering from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and phobia of stepping out of home has significantly increased in the last few months.
