Private hospitals no longer allowed to directly procure COVID-19 vaccines from manufacturers

Starting July 1, private hospitals in the country will no longer be allowed to directly procure COVID-19 vaccines from manufacturers and have to place orders on the Centre's CoWIN portal. All private hospitals have to register on CoWIN as a Private COVID Vaccination Centre (PCVC) to participate in the aggregation mechanism. Most hospitals have already registered on the portal, sources stated.

India logs 45,951 COVID new cases; recovery rate increases to 96.92 per cent

India recorded 45,951 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 817 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 60,729 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,94,27,330. The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 3,03,62,848 with 5,37,064 active cases, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 3,98,454.

Delhi sizzles at 43° C, year's highest temperature so far; no respite today

Delhi on Wednesday witnessed the first severe heat wave of the year with its maximum temperature soaring to 43-degree Celsius, the highest recorded so far this year. According to the met department, a respite from the heat is not likely in the national capital even on Wednesday. The highest temperature was recorded in the Najafgarh area at 44.4-degree Celsius, followed by Pitampura (44.3) and Mungeshpur (44.3). Lodhi Road, Ridge and Pusa areas witnessed severe heat wave with the mercury soaring to 42.6-degree Celsius, 43.4-degree Celsius and 44.3-degree Celsius, respectively, seven notches above the average temperature.

Two more persons were arrested in connection with the dubious COVID vaccination camps case in Kolkata, a police officer said on Tuesday. With the latest arrests, the Kolkata Police has so far nabbed six persons in the case, including fake IAS officer Debanjan Deb who masterminded the dubious COVID vaccination camps in the city, he said.
