New labour codes unlikely to be implemented from April 1: Report

The government has deferred the implementation of four labour codes that were enacted by the Parliament. The four labour codes are -- Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020; the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020; Code on Wages.

India records 53,480 new COVID-19 cases, 354 deaths in last 24 hours; active cases over 5.52 lakh

India's coronavirus tally jumped to 1,21,49,335 with 53,480 new cases reported in 24 hours, while 354 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,62,468, the Union Health Ministry said Wednesday morning. Out of 354 fatalities, 140 were reported from Maharashtra. The country had recorded 355 deaths on December 17.

UP schools shut till April 4 amid COVID-19 case surge

With the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has extended the closure of all schools up to Class 8 to April 4. Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath government had ordered the closure of schools for students up to Class 8 till March 31. The new instructions were given after a late-night meeting on Tuesday, chaired by the chief minister. The chief minister has also ordered officials to increase the number of Covid-19 testing in the state.

In a tragic incident, two people were killed after a truck ran over a footpath in Delhi. North Delhi shops, restaurants to now mention if meat is halal or jhatka

Restaurants and shops in north Delhi will now have to "mandatorily" display whether the meat being sold or served is halal or jhatka as the BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday cleared a proposal in this regard, its mayor said. Police have arrested 14 people in connection with an attack on policemen by a mob of sword-wielding Sikhs in Nanded after they were denied permission to hold a public procession due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said on Tuesday. OCI card holders no longer required to carry old passports for India travel

People of Indian origin and Indian diaspora having overseas citizens of India (OCI) card are now not required to carry their old, expired passports for travel to India, as required earlier, according to a statement. "The requirement of carrying old and new passports, along with the OCI card, has been done away with," the Indian embassy said on its website on Monday, referring to a notification issued in this regard by the Centre, addressing one of the major concerns of overseas Indians.
