Padma Vibhushan awardee Pt Birju Maharaj asked to vacate govt accommodation, Delhi HC stays Centre's notice

The Delhi High Court on Thursday stayed the notice issued by Centre to renowned Kathak artist, Birju Maharaj, asking him to vacate the government premises allotted to him by December 31, 2020. The bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru stayed the notice issued by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs directing renowned/eminent artist to vacate the government allotted accommodation, till the next date of hearing. Court also sought response of respondents in the matter and slated the matter for January 22, 2021.

Delhi: Dense fog shrouds national capital; mercury dips to season's lowest at 3.3°C

Dense fog over Delhi reduced visibility to just 50 metres, as the minimum temperature in the city dipped to 3.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the season's lowest so far, the India Meteorological Department said. It is also the third consecutive "cold wave" day in the city, said Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre.

India records 21,821 fresh COVID-19 cases, 299 deaths in a day; active cases remain below 3 lakh

UK Covid strain 70% more infectious, could have entered India before December: Randeep Guleria

It is possible that the new UK strain of coronavirus could have entered our country even before December, AIIMS director Randeep Guleria has said as he underlined that the mutant strain was first reported in Britain in September. Speaking to news agency ANI, Guleria said that the new Covid-19 strain is "more infectious" and is a matter of concern. Night curfew imposed in Delhi on New Year's eve, no celebrations allowed at public places

Bengal reports first case of new COVID strain as son of senior official tests positive

West Bengal on Wednesday reported its first case of a mutant coronavirus strain that surfaced in the United Kingdom, a senior health official said. The patient, son of a senior official of the state Health Department, tested positive for the Variant of Concern 202012/01 (VOC-202012/01) mutant coronavirus strain after returning from London 10 days ago, the official said.

Maharashtra govt extends Covid-19 lockdown restrictions till January 31

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Maharashtra government has extended lockdown restrictions in the state till 31st January 2021. 7 UK returnees test positive for new Covid strain in Karnataka

Seven people who returned to Karnataka from the UK, were found to be infected with the mutated strain of coronavirus, state Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Wednesday. The swab samples of 26 people who tested positive for COVID-19 were sent to NIMHANS to ascertain whether it is the new strain.  The 26 were among the 1,614 UK returnees, who were subjected to the tests. "Of the seven people, three are in Bengaluru and four in Shivamogga. All of them have been admitted to designated hospitals," Sudhakar told reporters. Forty six primary contacts of the seven people have been quarantined.

J&K: Terrorist killed during encounter with security forces in Parimpora
